Game Design
Given the nature of such a short production and having an incredible team passionate about design, we shared the vision and responsibility to design the best possible experience in the given scope.
Our main goal was to create a gameplay experience with simple mechanics and high potential for player emergence and scalability, so we decided to do a symmetrical 1v1 brawler.
We designed one combat experience that expressed the playful joy of floating as a bubble and combined it with a competitive high-stakes gameplay where the bubbles have to use the harpoons to pop the enemy bubble and survive.
These elements, combined with the level and play space, create an engaging and deep experience that is fast to implement and has room for deeper emergence thanks to the player skill factor.
Gameplay Pillars: Bubbles, high-stakes, constant action
Core Gameplay Loop: Move around as a bubble, shoot your harpoons, and avoid being hit.
Features:
- Jump
- Air control (lateral movement)
- Throw a harpoon
- Screen-warp portals
- Harpoons stick in the level
- Bubbles bounce off each other
- Friendly fire
- 5 hitpoints - best of 5 rounds
Key gameplay moments: Predicting enemy movement to land a hit, canceling out an almost hit by throwing the harpoon at the right time, using screen-wrap portals to escape, and throwing harpoons through screen-wrap portals to hit an enemy.
